Help Misha and Allan find a new home!

Hi friends!

It's July and we're still looking for a new home. We're lucky enough to currently be able to stay with some good and gracious friends. We're tired, a bit deflated, and feeling a little less like ourselves as we continue to temporarily live out of our suitcases. We're also deeply grateful for all the support we've received so far.

As our search continues, we're pivoting our support asks to focus on help in finding a full-time work contract for Allan--whether that be resume advice, interview tips, introductions, or references--every bit helps!

Please do share this directly with friends.

🖱️ Here’s what Allan and I are looking for:

  • A long-term rental (12 months leading into a permanent lease)

  • the ability to register for both of us

  • rent at €2,000 or less

  • any amount of rooms!

  • Our own unit (no rooms in a shared unit)

  • Nice-to-haves:

    • Elevator, dishwasher, washer, dryer, balcony, gas stove, bathtub (I know these are rare 🛁)

    • Located in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, or Den Haag

🖱️ Here’s a little bit about us:

We know that our renting profile isn’t competitive; we’re hoping that changes once Allan finds more full-time work or an additional part-time job. Even still, we've always paid our rent on time and never had issues with previous places.

  • Misha - ZZP’er making €2,100/mo

  • Allan - Mail Courier at PostNL making €750/mo; actively searching for full-time work in delivery or data analyst fields

  • We have an American guarantor who makes an equivalent income of €4,400/mo

  • We have no pets and no children

  • We don't smoke
  • We have a savings of 1 year's rent and living expenses

  • We can move in ASAP

  • You can find a full intro letter for us at the bottom of this page

🖱️ Here are ways you can help specifically with housing (in no particular order):

  • Make an ask of your local trees!
They helped us a lot in our last apartment search; ask them for places that would be a good fit for us, or for Allan to find full-time work.
(Yes, your literal, physical trees—around your house, on your way to work, near your favorite café, etc. In our last apartment search, we went on long walks and talked to the trees, and we ended up with a unit in an area called Bos en Lommer, literally 'forest and shade' 🌳 It doesn't even have to be a verbal conversation, just spend some time asking them in a way that makes sense to you 💚)

  • Light a candle and/or make an offering at your altars for us to find a new home (and/or for Allan to find full-time work).

  • Do you know any places that would hire Allan on a full-time or part-time basis? (employment contract, not ZZP)

  • Do you know anyone in your network who has a place to rent out?
Or of any vacancies near where you are?

  • Are you willing to be a Dutch guarantor for us? Let us know!
Our American guarantor would be willing to be part of any agreement between us as well.

  • Are you able to go to viewings for us in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, or Den Haag?

  • Do you know a makelaar who would be willing to offer services on a payment plan?

  • Contingencies—in the event that Allan and I don’t have a place by June 30th:

    • would we be able to register at your place until we do? (either as a mailing address or a residence address)

    • would we be able to stay at your place for a short time?
(we’d coordinate rotating our stays with others to relieve some of the labor of longer-term hosting, would need to be COVID-cautious)

    • Do you know anyone who could host us for a short time?
We can pay, but unpaid and/or in exchange for labor is also something we’re open to.
      (would need to be COVID-cautious)

🖱️Here are ways you can help indirectly (in no particular order):

  • Do you or any of your covid-cautious friends want covid-cautious assistance with: cleaning, pet sitting, pet walking, grocery shopping, moving, assembling furniture, running errands, photographing those things you’ve been planning to sell online, emptying out your shed/“activities” closet, or any other odd jobs?

Allan is offering his services informally, specifically for covid-cautious folks!
Have them reach out to allan.recinos@proton.me.

  • I work as an embodiment facilitator and event coordinator—you can learn more about the services I offer here. If this sounds like a good fit for you, your org, or a person/org that you know, you can help by referring/introducing us!
I’m happy to offer discounts for covid-cautious folks. You can also view mine and Allan’s covid-cautious practices here.

  • Any other advice / resources / recommendations / things we may not have thought of that you can connect us with? Feel free to send it our way as well!

Thank you for reading through this and supporting how you can. We've already gotten so much support from friends old and new, and we're excited to invite you to our housewarming!

If you want to see more of what our time in the Netherlands has been like so far, you can read about it here in this recap of our 2025, and subsequent entries into 2026!

We appreciate you! We hope you're having a lovely spring, and that you have a fun summer ahead.

🖱️The intro letter we send to makelaars (written as Allan):

*Some information is [redacted] or [variable].

Hello,

[the makelaar] showed us your property on [address] and we're very interested. We would love to be your future tenants.

My partner and I recently moved to Amsterdam and have enjoyed our time in [where we currently live]. We're now looking for a place to plant our roots and to continue to grow in this beautiful city. We were drawn to the Netherlands by the support of active lifestyles and how centrally located it is for travel. In our short time here we've made a number of friends which has made settling here m a lot easier.

Misha and I are both working professionals in our field. In moving to the Netherlands, Misha started her business this year as part of her visa requirements. She was able to have a head start by bringing on former employers and regular partnerships from the past 5 years directly into her new business as clients, enabling a seamless transition from U.S. employee/freelancer to Dutch contractor with no interruption in services provided. This has allowed her to maintain a steady income while continuing to build her clientele here in Amsterdam. She currently earns a monthly income of €2100 providing trauma-informed consulting for movement and embodiment events.

I work as a Mail Courier at PostNL and have a background in data analytics and film productions as a Camera Assistant–with more than 10 years of experience. My current monthly income is €767, but I am actively interviewing and waiting on responses from companies like Discord, Patagonia, and Ventrata for full time positions. In addition to projected increases in income, we've set aside funds held in investment accounts to comfortably cover 1 year of rent and living expenses. Additionally, we already have a guarantor prepared to co-apply with us if needed; they have a monthly income of $xxx (€xxx) and have been at their current place of work in a family business for over 8 years. We have all their required documents available.

We believe we'll be wonderful additions to your rental property--and here's why: We have a combined total of over 30 years of impeccable renting records and great relationships with our past property managers. We are both advocates in supporting our respective communities. In our free time we have picnics, take bike rides, and enjoy nights in with movies or video games. We're respectful, clean, polite, and always pay our bills on time. Our most recent property managers - [U.S. property manager] and [current property manager] - can each be reached here:

[U.S. property manager]: [their contact info]
[current property manager]: [their contact info]

We're excited and ready for a place to call home and start a new chapter in our lives.

Our desired move in date is as soon as possible and we can be flexible. We’re looking forward to making this happen.

Best regards,

Allan Recinos & Misha Agunos
