House Furnishing Checklist!

last updated: 26 Sept. 2026

Hi hi! Here's a comprehensive list of things we're looking for for furnishing our new home. Some of the larger or pricier things aren't necessarily intended for our housewarming party wishlist, but if during your search for other things you happen to see any contenders for us to purchase ourselves, please let us know!

Within the next week we'll add information about preferences around these items, and you can reference the pinned video in our party chat for a quick video tour of the apartment to see what exactly we're working with.

If you have an idea but aren't sure if we want/need it, or if you don't see it here, please do feel free to spam us your questions!

And of course, if you have any questions about anything that is listed, please feel free do DM either of us!

Table of Contents

General Preferences:

  • If there's something you're not using anymore, we love to adopt things from friends whenever we can 😁
  • If there's something that really makes your house feel like home, we love getting those ideas from friends too!
  • While some things we prefer to get new, we're mostly aiming to get as many things as possible second-hand--so things from thrift shops, marktplaats, Vinted, skip groups, or nice pieces that are left for large-item-pickup are all welcome ☺️
  • The easier something is to clean, the better!
It's great if it starts out pretty clean, but if it's both dirty and would have an involved cleaning process (e.g. covers/cloth parts that aren't removable or machine-washable, dirty in parts that cannot be accessed for cleaning, etc.)
    • as a point of reference, I recently completely disassembled a used hand-vaccuum and soaked all the soakable parts in soapy water before scrubbing/spraying each part clean and then reassembling. This had a lot of crevices that were hard to reach, but because I could separate them relatively easily for soaking, it was okay.
    • if something is moldy, mildewy, has questionable smells, please do leave it behind.

Miscellaneous Reflections

Folks had great questions in the chat! I've pasted some of my answers to them below:

  • From Misha:
    • we have a lot of wall space, so definitely anything that can be hung on a wall.
    • Allan had an idea that I really liked, which was artistic maps of places in in some of our favorite video games.
    • I tend to like cozy things but also subtly mischievous things, a blend of cottagecore and gremlincore, forest scapes, mushrooms.
    • I like octopi and squids, very beach druid coded the more i think about all this 😅
    • I do like the idea of also displaying things that I use every day as art also (e.g. it'd be cool to have a place on the wall to hang my hula hoop, and some space to display my Kali sticks; i have some jewelry that I hang on door handles when I'm not wearing it, etc.).
    • and I like things that remind me of memories with friends.
And I've been meaning to take all the stickers that I'm too indecisive to use and place them on magnets for a lil magnet board.
  • I am very much eclectic when it comes to art, but I tend to like paintings/posters. Not so much sculptures. I enjoy tiny things like trinkets. I still have the toy bear that I won from my first Sjoelen game this past Kings Day 😊
